Learn SharePoint 2010
When you learn SharePoint 2010,
you will understand how it is different from other development platforms. SharePoint
2010 lets you develop applications by using various templates and components.
By learning the SharePoint 2010, it is possible to extend 2010 SharePoint
environments and you will understand how SharePoint Projects can be customized
as per your requirements. The adoption of SharePoint has increased in the last
few years and in this direction, SharePoint 2013 was also launched to meet the
needs of various kinds of organizations.
SharePoint development projects
There is a rise in usage SharePoint
development projects. Large numbers of professionals are migrating to
SharePoint 2010 from other platforms especially from Microsoft ASP. Net, Lotus
Notes and JavaBeans. As a matter of fact, you will not create any projects by
using SharePoint.
There are a number of applications that are already created
and they are readily available when you install SharePoint in your computer.
Fully functional websites are readily available with the SharePoint Foundation.
The existing applications and websites will be extended as per users’ requirements.
SharePoint Farm
SharePoint Farm is nothing but a
set of one or more server computers. Farms are intended to serve the needs of SharePoint
sites and they will give complete functionality to clients. It is possible to
create a SharePoint farm by installing and configuring in a single server.
However, the scenario is different when you work in production where a number
of computers are pooled together to form a firm.
Each firm might perform a
dedicated function. One firm can be set up to run SharePoint foundation 2010.
Another firm can be set up to run SharePoint server 2010. As there are multiple
versions of SharePoint 2010, you should check the compatibility issues before
creation of projects and deployment of various components.
Feature
You can create a number of
components in a SharePoint solution. Feature is the common type which is widely
used in this context. Through ‘Feature activation’ methods new elements can be
added to a website. New menu commands, page templates, list definitions and
event handlers will be added to the site.
It is possible to define the
activation scope so that you will set the activation and de-activation of a
feature as per the requirement. If a feature has ‘web’ as scope setting, the
feature will be enabled in the website context only. If the scope is set to
‘site’, activation and deactivation will be done in the scope of a site
collection.
Declarative elements
XML element definitions are added
into special files so that element manifests are created. By creating element
manifests in SharePoint 2010, you can associate them with the features that
will be present behind the scenes. There are several templates which can used
to create new element types such as Module, ListTemplate and
FeatureSiteTemplateAssociation. By developing a SharePoint project as a firm
solution, you will enjoy greater flexibility.
The template files can be
deployed in the special SharePoint root directory.
When you learn SharePoint 2010
and implement various components, you will reap benefits as the organization’s
profitability will increase.
